Why should I consider Botox? Botox
injections improve the appearance of frown lines, crow's feet,
expression lines and other wrinkles due to facial muscle
contractions.
What is Botox?
Botox is
a protein substance that has been used safely since the early
1980's by Ophthalmologists to treat a variety of eye disorders.
Repeated frowning, squinting, or uncontrolled twitching of
facial muscles can cause forehead lines, crow's feet and frown
lines. Botox injections can successfully improve the appearance
of these worry lines and wrinkles.
How is the
Botox treatment done?
Using a
tiny micro-needle, a very small amount of Botox is injected,
into several locations on the face. The Botox blocks impulses
from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to
expression lines. After treatment, the overlying skin remains
smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles
contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression
to be unaffected. Forehead wrinkles, frown lines between the
eyebrows, and crows feet wrinkles around the eyes are the most
commonly treated areas. Advanced Botox treatments can accentuate
the lip, reduce smile lines above the lip, lift the corner of
the mouth, lift the eyebrows and release bands on the neck.
Does the treatment hurt?
There is
a slight stinging sensation at the time of treatment. However,
the injection is performed with a very fine syringe and a
minimal amount of Botox solution.
What can I expect?
The
effects of Botox will be noted 3 to 7 days after the procedure
and can last for up to 3 to 6 months. Repeated treatments have
been shown to be safe with no reported long term side effects.
During your consultation, risks, side effects and expected
outcomes will be discussed. |
