About Jamie K
After
visiting the gallery of wall finishes, you may be curious to know more
about the actual steps necessary to have the walls in your home decorated.
You may also be a little curious about my background. Let me start with
how I became a Wall Design Artist and what that means.
It has only been one year since I first applied glaze to a wall in two
colors and stepped back to see the effect. My reaction was delight.
To me, it was like working with watercolors, overlapping two colors
to get a third, without obvious stopping and starting points. Having
thoroughly enjoyed my first experience with glazes, I wanted to know
more so I enrolled in a class called Designer Wall Finishes that is
offered once a year in Seattle by Kelly S. King from The Faux Finish
Institute.
This school is regarded as one of the top in the nation. The methods
for creating basic glazes, textures and design possibilities were impressive,
but this class only offered the basics and, again, I wanted to know
more. The next step was to enroll in The Faux Finish Institute's Advanced
Wall Design located in Denver. This class taught me how to use plasters
developed for the purpose of creating the look of Old World classics
such as Venetian Gem plaster, Fresco and Crackles. They also taught
me how to use glazes and plaster to create new, contemporary finishes
that many people are looking for to personalize their homes. These techniques
were the avenue to create new finishes of my own design. Most days,
when I am not working in someone's home, you can find me in my at-home
studio located outside of Tumwater.
I have enjoyed many hours experimenting with specialty plasters and
glazes formulated to produce colors and textures that are beautiful
to the eye. I believe these finishes will transform a room from the
normal basic white wall into a work of art.
To create a design for you, it would be necessary set up an appointment
to meet in your home to show you my complete portfolio, which includes
about 30 different designs. This will give you an opportunity to see
what would work with your existing furniture, etc. Some finishes are
simple and some are not. Prices are based on square footage, materials
and level of difficulty. Once you decide on a finish, I will create
a sample of the finish using the colors you have selected. Many people
think in terms of paint, when actually, I only use glazes to create
the colors. All this will be explained at our first meeting. After taking
measurements, I will prepare a price for the completed job for your
approval and, also, a contract that outlines exactly what you can expect
from me. When there is an existing finish that needs to be covered up,
or the walls have been damaged, an outside source that specializes in
repair will be necessary.
This can be your choice to arrange or I can recommend someone to you.
In most cases, a simple skim-coat of inexpensive plaster, sanded down
and primed will fix any flaws or unwanted textures. A deposit of half
the amount of the bid needs to be collected so that I may order materials
and guarantee when the work will begin. At this point, you've only to
sit back and watch as your rooms are transformed. I would like to reassure
you that customer satisfaction is a top priority with me and I am a
person who takes pride in every detail from start to finish. If you
have any questions, feel free to call or e-mail me. Return to the home
page for this information.
